Until I Took the Shoes Off

It was there that I lost it;

It was then that I let go.

High-heels and a dress,

Bobby pins and sore feet–

That was my night,

Until I took the shoes off

And used a British accent,

And let myself be free

And forgot about the stares

And the watchful eyes of adults,

And just let it all go.

There I was, spinning,

Laughing with glee and not caring,

Because then I was free and happy

And nothing in the world could stop me.
