Saint Patrick was such an inspirational, influential man. When he was only sixteen, he was taken from his home in Great Britain to become a slave in Ireland. He lived there for about six years before he was able to escape and return to his family. Can you imagine experiencing such a horrible ordeal? Being ripped away from your family and friends, being uprooted from your entire life, to become a slave in a place completely foreign to you. But what makes his story even more amazing is, after becoming a cleric, he returned to Ireland to teach the Gospel. 

Legend says that Saint Patrick taught the Irish about the doctrine of the Holy Trinity by using a shamrock as an example. Because the shamrock is one plant with three leaves, it was an excellent illustration of the Christian teaching of three persons in one God. Another legend credits Saint…
