All Your Pretty Words

I suppose that I am strange,

Stranger than you would want.

I am all your pretty words,

But in a different font.

I suppose that I am cold,

For all the things I’ve done,

And though you won’t admit it,

I am the brazen one.

I suppose you think I’m cruel

For speaking such brave things.

But you, my darling, are wrong,

For I’m the one with wings.

I suppose that I am mad

For dreaming in the dark.

But when e’er my words ring true,

I know they’ve hit their mark.
