Crawl

We used to be the greatest pair

That ever walked those lonely halls.

With every kiss, you did repair

The wounds that forced me down to crawl.

I thought that you were one to trust;

I heard but truth in lies you told.

I care not for your aching lust—

I only want a hand to hold.

When you were done and had your way,

My darkest nights grew darker still.

I guess that’s just the price I pay

For waiting by your windowsill.

I should have known it wasn’t real;

I should have dropped that beer and ran.

I didn’t think that one could steal

A heart but now I know you can.

You managed to keep them at bay:

The monsters that were at my heels.

But now that you have gone away.

I’m broken and I’ll never heal.
